ECO PORTS

EcoPorts is the main environmental initiative of the European port sector, created in 1997 by a group of proactive ports and fully integrated into the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) since 2011. Its objective is to raise awareness about environmental protection through cooperation and knowledge exchange among ports, thereby improving environmental management in the sector.

EcoPorts offers environmental management tools based on the guidelines of the Port Environmental Review System (PERS), global standards, and voluntary commitments that exceed regulatory requirements. These tools enable ports to identify and manage environmental risks, compare their performance with the European average, and receive expert advice and personalized recommendations.

Through EcoPorts, ports can improve their environmental performance, reduce their ecological footprint, and promote sustainable practices that benefit both the environment and local communities.

Roadmap

2022

We began work with the purpose of certifying the Tocopilla port in early 2022.

2023

In April, Puerto Tocopilla initiated the verification process of the Port Environment Revision SYstem (PERS) with the aim of achieving the Ecoports Certification and to comply with our sustainability goal. With that purpose we have decided to make available to the public Puerto Tocopilla Environmental Report on our website. By doing so, we seek to foster transparency and open communication in relation to our environmental practices and to reinforce our commitment to citizens and the environment.
