Therapeutic Greenhouse experience inspires residents of Tocopilla
About 20 members of the Bernardo O’Higgins Neighborhood Council in Tocopilla visited the Therapeutic Greenhouse in María Elena, a space created to promote the well-being and autonomy of older adults through gardening, training and self-care.
The activity was designed to exchange community experiences and create initiatives that could be replicable in different locations. Carried out through a partnership by SQM Iodine Plant Nutrition, the Municipality of Tocopilla and Fundación Mr. Barber, it was a huge success.

The Therapeutic Greenhouse has become a green space for meeting, learning and care, where both practical skills and relationship-building are promoted.
On the topic, Carolina Elgueta, the executive director of Fundación Mr. Barber, said: “We actually had great participation because there is a lot of motivation. They learned about community initiatives that can be developed among neighbors. For us it is important to convey that, by coming together and working as a team, we can develop initiatives that impact the quality of life of all neighbors.”
Manuel Ossandón, Head of Community Relations at SQM Iodine Plant Nutrition, said: “This initiative can easily be replicated in their community. That’s why we wanted to make this trip.”

Maritza Pino, president of the Bernardo O’Higgins Neighborhood Council in Tocopilla, expressed her gratitude for the event: “I thank SQM Iodine Plant Nutrition and Fundación Mr. Barber for this enriching experience for all of us.”
