La Tirana inaugurates first Digital Farmacia Fracción

• Promoted by SQM Iodine Plant Nutrition and Farmacia Fracción, with support from the Municipality of Pozo Almonte, this initiative seeks to make access to pharmacy services easier for local residents.
One of the main purposes for opening the first Digital Farmacia Fracción in the territory is to improve the quality of life and access to health care for families and senior citizens in La Tirana. This social project will enable local neighbors to buy medicine without having to travel to the district capital.
Rodrigo Vera, VP of Planning and Projects for SQM Iodine Plant Nutrition, commented: “We are very pleased to be able to inaugurate this digital pharmacy today in La Tirana, extending our commitment to health and the community here in the Tarapacá Region, giving them access to medicine in a very innovative way and providing solutions to real community problems.”
The mayor of the district of Pozo Almonte, Richard Godoy, said: “When public-private partnerships come together for the community, it’s the neighbors who win. In addition, with this innovative way to enable people throughout our district to purchase medicines—clearly at very affordable prices, today we benefit from this alliance between Fundación Fracción, SQM and our municipality.”
Undoubtedly, the main beneficiaries of this initiative are the local senior citizens, who were very pleased with this news. Natasha Rojas, treasurer of La Tirana Neighborhood Council No. 9, commented: “Many of us are seniors here and we have to go to Pozo Almonte or, many times, to Iquique to buy our medicine. Now, with this pharmacy, it will be much cheaper, thanks to the mayor’s efforts, and I am very grateful to SQM.”
At the ceremony, a vehicle was also donated to make pharmacy deliveries to residents living outside of town. Javier Vega, CEO and founder of Farmacia Fracción, said: “This project would not have been possible without the public-private collaboration of the district of Pozo Almonte, the Tarapacá Regional Health Ministry and SQM Iodine Plant Nutrition, which allows us to meet the needs of the people of La Tirana to buy something as basic as their medicine.”
Agreement with Cavancha Rotary
During the inauguration ceremony, the mining company also signed a collaboration agreement with the municipality and the Cavancha Rotary Club, represented by Roberto Varas, to strengthen the health network in Pozo Almonte. This agreement aims to improve the basic infrastructure of the Emergency Medical Attention Service (SAMU) and to support the Colonia Agrícola Pintados health post with health professionals.
SQM Iodine Plant Nutrition spotlighted this agreement, pointing out that this type of initiative is key for better quality, timely and close care, building local capacity and improving families’ quality of life.
