Children in Bajo Soga receive new sports apparel

Children in Bajo Soga receive new sports apparel

SQM formally handed over the apparel to soccer teams at a local sports club in the municipality of Huara

Members of different teams in the Bajo Soga sports club received shirts, shorts and socks, which they will wear while representing Bajo Soga in its upcoming soccer competitions.

The activity, hosted by SQM’s Head of Community Relations, Gary Merida, and Bajo Soga sports club president, David Chamaca, was held during a friendly competition with a delegation from Camiña.

Club president David Chamaca commented that the gift “was thanks to an agreement with the company, which has supported us from the start. We currently have four levels of teams, and hope to continue competing in different matches around the region and aspire to one day have a soccer field and organize a large tournament with Tamarugal localities.”

“Today, we are in this primarily farming community, which is home to 100 families, providing apparel to a very enthusiastic, dedicated club with great potential. Encouraging sports and a healthy lifestyle and supporting sports organizations is one of the goals of our Sustainability Plan, which is focused on the sustainable development of the communities we are connected with, and the creation of shared social value,” commented SQM representative Gary Merida during the ceremony.

During the friendly encounter, Bajo Soga under-15 player Ángel Condori Huanca commented: “When it’s about representing Bajo Soga, we are always motivated, even more so today with this assistance. As a team we have already won some cups and hope to continue competing. Today I wore number 3, but the number doesn’t make the player.”

Through its different sports, cultural educational and heritage recovery initiatives, the company is not only present in Bajo Soga, but also in Huara, Pisagua, and several localities in the district of Pozo Almonte.
