ISO 45001:2018 is an internationally recognized standard for Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) management. It provides a structured framework that enables organizations to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement control measures to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses, and workplace incidents.
Implementing ISO 45001 allows us to strengthen our safety culture, ensuring a safer and healthier work environment for everyone. The standard is based on the continuous improvement cycle, which facilitates risk prevention and the optimization of our safety practices.
Scope of our ISO 45001:2018 Certification
Plant Nutrition
- Puerto Tocopilla: Storage, packaging, and shipping operations of potassium nitrate, sodium nitrate, and soluble fertilizers.
- Nueva Victoria: Iodine production

As part of this commitment, SQM Iodine and Plant Nutrition has implemented the ISO 45001:2018 standard, reinforcing our culture of occupational health and safety. Through this standard, we aim to prevent workplace hazards, improve working conditions, and ensure a safe environment for all our employees.
Progress Status
At SQM Iodo Nutrición Vegetal, we have designed the Operational Risk Management System (SISGRO) to systematize the company's preventative management and optimally control occupational risks and potential losses that arise in our various operations. Our management system applies to operations and offices in Chile, and for offices abroad, the legislation in force in each country applies. However, in 2024, we decided to obtain certification in an Occupational Health and Safety Management System under the ISO 45001 standard, starting at the Port of Tocopilla.
2024: 705 In October 2024, Puerto Tocopilla successfully completed Phase 1 of the certification process, receiving approval from the external auditor to advance to Phase 2 in November. This is expected to lead to certification of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS), meeting the requirements of the international standard. Puerto Tocopilla will be the first operation of the Iodine Plant Nutrition Division to achieve this certification. The scope of certification is "Storage, packaging, and shipping operations of Potassium Nitrate, Sodium Nitrate, and Fertilizers." This certificate is valid from January 9, 2025, to January 8, 2028. 2026: Nueva Victoria obtained ISO 45001:2018 Certification. This certificate is valid from 2026-02-09 to 2029-02-08. View certificate here
