Students from Pintados Farming Colony Receive Tablets to Enhance their Learning Process
Students from the Oasis del Desierto School in the Pintados farming colony received 60 internet-capable tablets donated by SQM through the “Más Matemática” educational program.
In order to enhance the learning process for students at the rural school in the Pintados farming colony during the pandemic, through the “Más Matemática” educational program from Crea+, SQM donated one tablet with internet access to each student at the school to keep students and teachers connected and help them optimize learning.
Carlos Sáez, a teacher at the school, explained: “Because of the contingency, we were forced to think about how to improve digital accessibility among our students and teachers to be able to answer their questions and regain the excellent communication we had, and SQM responded to our requests. We are grateful to the company for their assistance, which gives our students from Pintados accessibility.”
On the topic, Gary Mérida, SQM’s Head of Community Relations, highlighted: “We have been working with the Más Matemática program in the town of Pintados for more than 10 years. In response to the new reality because of the public health crisis, teachers and students at the school in Pintados have adapted their school routines and means of communication. As a company, we want to contribute to this adaptation process by giving each student a tablet with internet access, headphones and a digital pen they can use as work tools that help them continue to improve their studies.”
The Mayor of Pozo Almonte, Richard Godoy, thanked the mining company for its contribution. “As always, SQM is rising to the occasion to meet the needs of our district and, today in particular, those of the Pintados farming colony. This support is very important for our children to be connected with their teachers. Digital connectivity is important and this contribution is very comprehensive.”
“I would like to express my gratitude for this excellent initiative that the school arranged with the company because our internet signal is very poor, so this contribution will be very positive. My son will be starting his first year of high school soon and it is very important for them to have the tools to continue to get a quality education”, expressed María Cortés, a parent at the school.
SQM’s contribution is part of the Education action area of the community action plan that the mining company implemented at the beginning of the pandemic to join forces with neighboring communities to cope with the public health crisis.
