As part of its commitment to community development and the promotion of safe and protective environments for children, SQM has launched the “Voluntary Commitment to Child Protection” program, an initiative developed in partnership with Fundación María Ayuda, Juntos por la Infancia, and the National Specialized Child and Adolescent Protection Service.
The initiative marks the beginning of a collaborative effort aimed at creating meaningful experiences for girls and adolescents whose rights have been violated, through a volunteer program that will engage SQM employees throughout the year.
“We are very pleased to make this partnership a reality, as it reflects our purpose of contributing to the well-being of communities through actions that generate a positive and sustainable impact. We hope this will be the beginning of a long-term path of collaboration,” said Aníbal Abogabir, SQM’s Communities and Public Affairs Manager.
The program includes two initiatives that will be carried out together with Fundación María Ayuda’s Bárbara Kast residential home, which provides specialized protection for girls and adolescents. The first involves providing each of the 12 residents with a complete outfit, while the second consists of preparing a Christmas gift specially designed for them, seeking to offer not only a present, but also a gesture of care, dedication, and companionship.
For Carola Huerta, Director of the Bárbara Kast residential home at Fundación María Ayuda, this partnership represents a valuable opportunity for the girls and adolescents. “We see this as an opportunity for them—an opportunity to continue moving forward, to build their future and grow within what we promote at the residence: that they live in an environment that is as natural and family-like as possible,” she emphasized.
Through this initiative, SQM reaffirms its commitment to promoting a culture of care and shared responsibility, encouraging the participation of its employees in actions that contribute to the well-being and development of girls and adolescents, while strengthening collaboration between the private sector and organizations specialized in child protection.
