ECOPORTS

ECOPORTS It is the leading environmental initiative for the European port sector. As such, it offers a range of environmental management tools based on EcoPorts’ PERS guidelines, which is a global standard that has voluntary commitments that go beyond normal regulatory requirements.

Our commitment is to identify environmental risks and compare our scores with the European average scores, in order to receive expert advice and personalized recommendations from ECOPORTS

Progress Status

2022: We began work with the purpose of certifying the Tocopilla port in early 2022.

2023: In April, Puerto Tocopilla initiated the verification process of the Port Environment Revision SYstem (PERS) with the aim of achieving the Ecoports Certification and to comply with our sustainability goal. With that purpose we have decided to make available to the public Puerto Tocopilla Environmental Report on our website. By doing so, we seek to foster transparency and open communication in relation to our environmental practices and to reinforce our commitment to citizens and the environment. 2023: In June, the ECOSLC Foundation congratulated the SQM Tocopilla port in Chile, for achieving ECOPORTS PERS Certification for the first time, following validation obtained from the independent auditor LRQA located in The Netherlands. See certificate here

2024: In the follow-up evaluation, we improved our environmental performance, increasing the rate from 90.57% in 2022 to 92.98% in 2024.

2025: During this year, we will begin the recertification process for the Port of Tocopilla under the EcoPorts (PERS) standard, reaffirming our commitment to responsible environmental management and continuous improvement. In this context, we will present a new, updated version of the Port of Tocopilla Environmental Report, which will be publicly available on our website as part of our efforts to enhance transparency and maintain open communication with our stakeholders. 2025: August, The ECOSLC Foundation congratulates SQM’s Tocopilla Port, Chile, for achieving the ECOPORTS PERS Certification for the second time, after validation by the independent auditor LRQA, Netherlands.
