SQM Provides Support to Families Affected by Severe Weather in Tocopilla

The company, together with employees and local authorities, deployed on-the-ground assistance following the climate emergency.

Tocopilla is facing a challenging recovery process following intense rainfall and the subsequent mudslide that caused damage across much of the municipality. In response, SQM coordinated efforts with local authorities to support residents affected by the emergency.

The initiative included the distribution of water, food and essential supplies, as well as the participation of port workers and labor unions in cleanup and mud removal efforts across different areas of the city.

“As good neighbors, we wanted to support and stand alongside the community during this difficult time, providing concrete assistance to help families gradually return to normal,” said Manuel Ossandón, SQM’s Head of Community Relations.

Daniela Vecchiola, Provincial Presidential Delegate for Tocopilla, also welcomed the support provided by the company and its employees. “We appreciate SQM’s contribution and the support they have provided over these past few days. Currently, more than 60% of homes have been affected, mainly by the heavy rainfall and subsequent mudslide, so all assistance is welcome,” she said.

These efforts complement the work being carried out by local authorities, institutions and community organizations to support the recovery of the hardest-hit areas and address the most pressing needs of local residents.
